Liberatory Leadership Development
February 23-24, 2024
9:00am-3:30pm
Working in a contemporary school system often requires simultaneous management of limited resources, the needs of a diverse student and staff population and a challenging social and political environment. While keeping one's head above water there is often not enough time to contemplate the underlying currents within the systems and groups that we work with. As a conse-quence, we may be missing opportunities to be more effective as teachers, administrators and humans who care about our work.
This 2-day online workshop will offer an opportunity to slow down, step out of the maelstrom and examine some of our collective assumptions and barriers to effectiveness that usually operate below the surface and out of our aware-ness.
Adapting a proven methodology that helps groups examine "below the sur-face" we will take participants on a journey of discovering new ways to work and to understand how to make the most out of the complexity of work life.
The workshop will enhance the ability to:
Analyze the interplay of authority, identity, and relationships in leadership
Surface and address issues related to identity and positionality in work
Examine issues of trust and hierarchy so that all participants can fully engage
Distinguish between individual and group processes
Demonstrate new skills in group decision making, roles and norms, communication networks, group goals, conflict management and group development.
